Detail Installation process of ArcGIS 10.2 and license manager (Very easy)

The basic steps involved in the installation of the ArcGIS 10.2 desktop and its license manager are instructed as follows: (we assume that you already have the crack and back-up for installation).

(Note: Some computers may require their antivirus softwares being disabled during the time of installation but some may not. Risk at your own)

  • Before you begin Installing ArcGIS 10.2, you should uninstall any old version of ArcGIS components and license manager from your PC. For easiness you can use RevoUnistaller software to uninstall the license manager for ArcGIS and then you can uninstall ArcGIS. The use of RevoUnistaller s/w is important because you need to clear old registry files, temporary files of license manager and ArcGIS. Otherwise, it may create problems later on in setup procedure of ARCGIS.
  • If you have the backup of the ArcGIS software which I am using, you must have 4 folders inside ArcGIS 10.2.2 namely: Extras, Installer- ArcGIS, Installer- License Manager, and Patch.
  •   Ok if all good, then you need to extract first of all ArcGIS by double clicking ArcGIS_Desktop_1022_140115.exe   to a folder you like anywhere in your hard disk. Then, wait for the extraction to complete.
  • After extraction is completed, you see a folder ArcGIS 10.2.2. Run Setup.exe found inside ArcGIS 10.2.2/Desktop/Setup.exe. (if not automatically started)
  • Wait for the installation to complete. After installation is complete, ArcGIS Administration may open, leave it for now. Do not do anything on it just cancel it.
  • Then install License Manager. Double click Setup.exe found in ArcGIS 10.2.2/Installer-License Manager (in your back up folder).
  • Wait for the installation to complete. Now we head toward cracking the license. Before you do that, first of all make sure the licenses currently are stopped.
  • For that, go to start, type License Server Administrator in search and click it to open. In the LSAdmin window under ArcGIS/Start/Stop License Service, click the Stop button to stop the services. Then Under Diagnostics. Click diagnose. You should see License Status: not running.
  • Ok if alright. Go to ArcGIS 10.2.2/ Patch folder (backup folder). Inside Procedure 2 Patch/ double click ArcGis_Keygen_Modified.exe.
  • Change version to 10.2. Click ALL and it will generate the licenses for all modules.
  • Find the services.txt file in your “C:\Program Files(X86)\ArcGIS\License 10.2\bin” and open it. Replace the text here with the text generated from the keygen.
  • Also make a slight change like below in services.txt for configuring licenses for your PC. In the file change the name of the server to your computer name.(CHANGE only the red one as shown below to your computer name…. you can copy your computer name from your computer properties, but this name may not work sometime (for that you can use localhost as your server name)

  •  Copy ArcGIS.exe file from the same folder ArcGIS 10.2.2/ Patch and paste to program files(86x)/ArcGIS/license10/bin
  • Open the License server Administrator. Go to start/stop license server. Click Start and then go to Diagnostics and click diagnose. It must say testing licenses done
  • Then, Open ArcGIS Administration. Click on Desktop choose Advanced(Arcinfo) Concurrent use) and on license manager tab give your computer name or localhost (any one may work).
  • Now you are ready to play with ArcGIS. Start Arcmap from Start menu.

Geofencing Post Disaster Situation Using Android APP

Abstract:

Nepal is ranked one of the most vulnerable country to disasters in the world due to its topographical features, adverse geo climatic conditions, environmental degradation, urbanization etc. Although everyone acknowledges this fact, there still lacks a proper and well-coordinated disaster management system which includes stages of mitigation, preparedness, relief, response and recovery. Nepal Government along with coordination with different NGO and INGO are working collaboratively to build an effective management system. But at present the existing applications, tools and systems have not been enough to address all issues of disaster management.Although Nepal has been able to build a system effective for disaster preparedness through the involvement of organizations like NSET, but the works on response, recovery and relief phase during post disaster situation seems not enough. Since, the market and reach of mobile phones to people is increasing day by day and mostly the popularity of smartphones is very high and among all available smartphones in market, Android has been the long leading smartphones in the market, the use of android smartphones would be an effective medium of communication, sharing information and sending and receiving alerts in a disaster scenario. The android’s penetration to users is increasing so rapidly that it could be a quick information sharing tool. Realizing the essence and usefulness of android to be used in the disaster management system seems to be an effective tool, an android application named D-Fencing was developed. This app was developed using Android SDK with ADT plugin in eclipse IDE. Bluestack App player was used to test the application and PostgreSQL was used for database management. The users of android app can be benefited by being able to receive alerts and notifications via their application notifications on their mobile screen based on the location of the device (which consequently is their location if they are carrying it),and given that their location is within or inside a defined geofence. A geofence here in the app is a virtual perimeter- a virtually fenced off geographic location of a circular shape with fixed radius and center coordinates in latitude and longitudes in WGS coordinate system defined by the system administrator who can be admin of the disaster management system. The geofence defined by the admin also contains name and the message for the geofence that the users entering into that virtual geofence are expected to receive as notifications in their smartphones.

QUALITY ASSESEMENT OF OSM DATASETS

The use of maps has been one of the important and most effective way of communicating in this era. Many people have started using maps for their navigation purposes either may be in their traveling or tour. In Nepal as well the use of map have been a very popular topic nowadays. But the main problem of using map for personal use is the cost and availability of these maps and datasets. Survey department of Nepal under Ministry of Land Reform and Management prepares the map and disseminate those maps. But the maps they provide are fee included maps not free. Hence open street map is an open and collaborative project which provides map as  a free and open source. It involves a group of people for the data collection and its a kind of community project.

But the question comes when we want to use these data/ Can we rely on these data?Can the OSM data be as accurate as Survey Department data? Can we use it for navigation and more?

Hence we , some student of Kathmandu University started the project to assess the quality of these OSM data. We are in the middle of this project. Sheet Numbering System In Nepal

2. Sheet Numbering System in Nepal(Model) for Cadastral Map
For large scale sheet numbering purpose, Nepal lies in three 3° zone numbered as 44.0, 44.5, 45.0 with central meridian
81°E, 84°E and 87°E. Each 3° zone is divided into grid squares of 50km*50km called grid sheet which are at a scale of
1:100000. Nepal is divided into 10 belts of latitude for numbering X-coordinate measuring from 2900 to 3400km from
equator (0 km). Thus there are 60 grid sheets in each zone and 180 total grid sheets covering whole Nepal numbering
from 001 to 180 as in the figure.

The scale of each grid sheet is 1:100000. Hence to obtain
map of scale 1:10000, we need to cover 5km*5km by each
map sheet, thus we need to make 10*10=100 parts of each
grid sheet of scale 1:100000. This can be done as shown
below. The numbering can be done as from 01 to100.An
example sheet of this scale is written as 120-19.

The 1:10000 map sheets can be further divided into four parts to get a map sheet of scale 1:5000 or also can be divided
into 5*5=25 parts to obtain map sheet of scale 1:2000. The numbering systems are shown in the figure below.
